Ruwangi Amarasinghe is a freelance Illustrator, Artist & Muralist living and working between Colombo, and Matara, Sri Lanka. Though she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at the Academy of Design in Colombo, her work has since been mainly focused on illustration and painting. She inherited and honed her skills from her diversely artistic family.

Ruwangi works with Sri Lanka’s first electronic music label, Jambutek Recordings, illustrating covers for all their releases. Ruwangi also works for Far Afield, the UK based menswear brand, making prints and patterns for their seasonal collections since 2012. She has been involved in the music festival Pettah Interchange, and art exhibitions such as Imago Mundi, Colomboscope, and the Alchemy Festival. She has done work for The National Geographic, illustrating a cover for their Planet or Plastic series. She continues to work with organizations benefiting planet/ocean conservation, and women’s issues. She is currently undertaking commissions for large scale canvas paintings. Her mural work can be seen around the country at various restaurants and cafes. She is known for using vibrant colours and unique style in her work.

Her personal work is inspired by her interest in the cosmic universe, human consciousness & emotions, science fiction and nature. Which can be seen reflected in her ongoing digital story series called the Space Motel.
