Local Forecast’s online store and storytelling platform explore a vibrant evolving creative culture in Sri Lanka – one that includes a diverse community of creative, independent thinkers who define our own rules when it comes to life and living.
Through thoughtfully made products and stories of the people who make them, we wish to add lasting value to your everyday. Every purchase supports small businesses and the people behind them to remain independent and thrive. It supports us to push the boundaries of our creative work and define new cultures and ideas in Sri Lanka and beyond.
We continue to learn and strive to live by the values we hope to see more of in the world around us. We look forward to you joining us in empowering creative communities in Sri Lanka.

OUR ROOTS
Colombo Design Market
In 2014 there were few opportunities to connect with anyone in the creative space, launch creative businesses and get a sense of what was happening in the city. The vibrant creative sub-cultures of Colombo, although very present, were nowhere to be found.
We founded Colombo Design Market (CDM), a community event that brings together this diverse group, allowing Colombo to discover fresh, new talent all in one place. Each edition features a fresh line-up of emerging artists, designers and creatives to connect, collaborate and sell their work. Local musicians, creative talks, workshops and raw talent emerging from all parts of the island brings the space to life.
We’ve now evolved to be much more than the market. CDM works closely with craft artisans to innovate for traditional craft, provide creative services through our agency and a community online culture space, Local Forecast. As we grow and experiment, exploring and pushing the boundaries of Sri Lanka’s creative culture remains at the heart of what we do.

Alifiya Mutaher, Co-Founder
Always questioning the systems we live in and how we can influence them, I work on the practical and playful sides of entrepreneurship, creative culture and design research.
Local Forecast is my way of shouting off rooftops of the radical things people are doing in Sri Lanka. Of creating something with a community that has inspired and shaped me in many ways and how I choose to live, always reminding me of the good things in life.
